AFRIS celebrates Women's Day
The African Council in Sweden (AFRIS) marked a day for women with a series of activities at Kista. The highlight of the activities was a lecture on men's violence against women delivered by Bernadita Nunez från Terrafem. Three young girls, Drammeh, Awa Njie and Yasin Sallah, made recitations about bullying and harassment among young girls and boys especially in the schools.
There was a short play Life as an Association member presented by members of AFRIS. The play showed how a member of the association got melted in the Swedish society while the one who kept herself at home not wanting to mix with others missed not only on the social life with fellow Africans but became completely out of touch with the larger Swedish society. The play showed that it pays to look for your contrymen when you come to a foreign country. It was directed by our own GUSS Vice President, Grace Mahama and featured Suberu Salam, Ladi Salam, Abby Drammeh, Florence Aibeku, Diana Ablorh and Victoria Akpotu.
The night was rounded off by a dinner in which African food from different parts of the continent was served. There were many beautifully dressed African ladies present including the recently crowned Miss Africa, Matilda Ahoeffa.
